A full plate means a fair start. Every meal is an act of dignity.

The Problem

A hungry child cannot learn.

According to the latest data from the Nepal Demographic and Health Survey, about 32% of adolescents are stunted. Undernutrition in children is a major cause of morbidity and mortality that hinders their long-term physical and mental development.

A hungry child cannot concentrate during lessons and drops out of school, unable to cope. The school is therefore not only a place of learning, but also plays an important role in the health and nutrition of children.

Our goal is to provide a hot, high-protein meal that improves children's attention span, allowing them to follow their lessons and continue their schooling.

How It Works

More than nutrition — it's dignity.

Our Mid-Day Meal program is run by mothers and community cooks. It's a daily act of care that keeps children energized, present, and eager to learn.

👩‍🍳 Community-Run Kitchens

Meals are prepared by local mothers and community cooks who understand the cultural and nutritional needs of children. This also creates employment and dignity for women.

🌿 Garden-to-Plate

Vegetables are grown in school and home gardens. Produce is bought directly from women's self-help groups, creating a circular local economy that benefits everyone.

👪 Parent Oversight

School kitchens are monitored by parents and HoN staff to ensure quality, safety, and consistency. Parents are active partners in the nutrition of their children.

🥦 Nutritional Standards

Each meal is designed to be high-protein and nutritionally complete — helping children grow, concentrate, and thrive in school and beyond.

📋 Regular Monitoring

HoN staff conduct regular visits to all schools, reviewing meal quality, kitchen hygiene, and child attendance to continuously improve the program.

🏫 School Attendance Impact

Research shows that a midday meal program significantly reduces absenteeism. Children who know they will eat stay in school — it's that simple.
